Forward Deployed Engineer

10dem is an applied AI consultancy for mid-market consumer tech. We don't sell decks; we ship AI systems into clients' production stacks and stay accountable for the metric they were meant to move.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer you are the person on the ground. You sit inside a client's codebase, data and rituals for weeks at a time, find where AI actually pays off, build it, and land it with the team who has to run it after we leave. It is the highest-leverage engineering seat in the firm: you own outcomes, not tickets.

  • 01Embed with 1-2 client teams at a time, from opportunity assessment through production rollout.
  • 02Design and build LLM-powered systems end to end: retrieval pipelines, agent workflows, evals, guardrails and the boring glue that makes them reliable.
  • 03Work directly in client stacks (Python/TypeScript, their cloud, their data warehouse) and leave the code better documented than you found it.
  • 04Instrument everything: every build ships with an eval harness and a business-metric dashboard, because that is how we get paid and re-hired.
  • 05Translate between founders, client execs and client engineers without losing precision in either direction.
  • 06Feed what you learn in the field back into 10dem playbooks, accelerators and training material.

  • 013+ years shipping production software, with real ownership of systems in production (on-call scars welcome).
  • 02Hands-on LLM experience beyond demos: RAG, tool use / agents, evals, prompt and context engineering, cost/latency tradeoffs.
  • 03Strong Python or TypeScript, comfortable across the stack and inside unfamiliar codebases.
  • 04Consultant's spine: you can walk into a room of skeptical client engineers, earn trust in a week, and say 'no, that won't work' to an exec when needed.
  • 05Bias for shipping scrappy-but-instrumented v1s over polished v0.1s.
  • 06Crisp written and spoken English; you will write docs, memos and Looms that clients actually read.

  • 02Consumer-tech domain exposure: apps, D2C, marketplaces, subscription or media, consumer fintech or health.
